SPINAL DECOMPRESSION THERAPY PROGRAM

Our treatment recommendations are based upon the most current research and clinical protocols used with spinal decompression therapy.  On average, a treatment plan consists of 20 sessions of spinal decompression therapy.  These sessions are performed over a 4 week period followed by a rehabilitation plan that consists of 8-12 weeks of rehabilitation.  Rehabilitation consists of a core strengthening program on the SpineForce machine as well as chiropractic adjustments and other therapeutic modalities.

Your experience begins with an initial consultation that helps the doctor determine if you are a candidate for this program.  Once contraindications are ruled out, an examination is performed.  Findings from the examination are compared to MRI findings to determine the specific level of the disc lesion.  Following this thorough evaluation, a care plan will be recommended or a proper referral will be provided.

SPINAL DECOMPRESSION

During the first 4 weeks of care, daily treatments on the decompression machine are performed and last for 30 minutes.  Moist heat packs are placed on the treatment area prior to the session, and ice is provided following each session.  During this procedure, the specific disc lesion is isolated and distracted with the patented pelvic restraint and tilting mechanism of the SpineMED table.  Decompression, or the reduction of intra-discal pressure, allows an increase in imbibition which facilitates the transfer of fluids, nutrients and oxygen back inside the disc resulting in the retraction of bulging or herniated materials.  In addition to this procedure, nutritional protocols are used to decrease inflammation and muscle tension, encourage joint health, and improve hydration at a cellular level.  Ergonomic supports are also provided to improve stability and function.

 REHABILITATION

A proper rehabilitation plan is a vital component to this program.  Over the next 8 to 12 weeks, a rehabilitation program is implemented that consists of specific exercises and treatments that strengthen and stabilize the targeted spinal region and reduce the mechanical stress and postural imbalances that have resulted in this dysfunction. The primary goal is to restore proper stabilization in the area of dysfunction and to reduce the risk of future injury.

This program consists of core strengthening exercise on our SpineForce machine that is one of the most advanced pieces of exercise equipment in the world as it targets the 180 deep spinal muscles of the spine.  Resistance exercise with specialized equipment, gym ball exercises, wobble board exercises, specific stretching protocols, and chiropractic adjustments are also a part of this program. The patient is also provided with at home exercises and lifestyle recommendations.  Following the rehabilitation program, the treatment plan is concluded.
